Busy Philipps nearly divorced her husband Marc Silverstein over unequal parenting duties

Busy, 40, who shares two daughters with Marc, 48, admits she felt “done” in her marriage.

“My thinking was that if I leave, at least then maybe I’d get two days off a week,” Busy said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

“I understand that I’m in a place of privilege, and even if I left Marc and I’d been super down on my luck, there was a version of life that I could have made work for me and my daughters.

“This is not the reality for many women.”

The White Chicks star says that when she told her screenwriter significant other that she was thinking about leaving him, he then stepped up.

“And he made the call: He should be the one to stay home with the kids,” Busy reveals.

“I was fully out the door. I wasn’t expecting anything from him, but what we ended up doing was creating our own system.”

After Marc decided he’d stay at home with their kids, Birdie, 11, and Cricket, 6, it helped him bond with his children.

“He now loves his mornings with the girls,” says Busy.

“He’ll make my Bulletproof coffee and bring it into the bedroom while I’m still sleeping, and then leave to take the kids to school.”

Marc admits: ‘I didn’t feel like I was good enough’

Meanwhile, Marc says he felt like he “wasn’t good” enough, so he just didn’t try.

“I like being good at stuff. And I didn’t feel like I was good [in the home], so I stayed away,” he told the publication.

But Busy’s ultimatum made him realize “that deep happiness comes from my family.

“And once I figured out what I could bring to the table, things changed. I wanted to do more.”

Busy says that you have to find a way to make it work for you, your partner and your children.

In fact, Marc did a complete 180 that Busy says she sometimes feels a bit jealous.

“He has conversations with them that I’m jealous of. The closeness he now has with these girls, it’s really special,” she admits.

“Marc literally spends so much time with the girls that they accidentally call me ‘Dad’ sometimes. Like when did that ever happen?”

Busy and Marc had a lot of serious discussions: ‘He didn’t understand how to be a dad’

In a previous interview with People magazine, Busy admitted that Marc let her down after the birth of their first child.

“He was not understanding how to be a dad and, in fact, didn’t try. I was parenting by myself,” she said.

“When I told him I wanted to have a second child, he said, ‘Fine, but it’s all on you.’ That was so heartbreaking.”

The star revealed she confronted her husband, they sought counseling and Marc was willing to put in the work.

“We’ve had a lot of serious discussions and counselling, and he’s incredibly participatory now in a way I don’t think he could’ve imagined before,” she added.

“We’re a work in progress but trying our best, and that’s the most you can do.”

We’re glad you and Marc worked things out, Busy.

If you are dealing with an unsupportive partner and aren’t coping, then we recommend you speak to your doctor or seek counseling to get the appropriate help you need.
