Kirsten Dunst believes going to work is easier than being a stay at home mom – is she right?

Many moms deliberate about whether or not they should return to their careers or stay at home with their children – it’s not always an easy decision.

But not for actress Kirsten Dunst.

In fact, the Bring It On star believes going to work is so much more EASIER than being a stay at home mom.

Kirsten Dunst says working is easier than being a stay at home mom

In an interview with People, Kirsten – who is mom to her son Ennis, one, with her husband Jesse Plemons – admitted to feeling eternally exhausted.

“I’m just tired all the time,” the 37-year-old said. “It’s so much easier to go back to work than it is to be a stay at home mom. I was like, ‘bye’ to my mother-in-law [who is watching Ennis]. I was like, phew!”

Is it really more stressful to be a stay at home parent?

According to USA Today, one in five moms and dads stay at home with their kids.

What’s more, a study by Gallup analysis looked at more than 60,000 US moms and found that stay at home moms (26 %) were more likely to experience anger or sadness, depression and worry compared to 16 % of working moms.

As part of this commitment to moms health and World Healthy Mummy month, we surveyed over 5,000 moms in The Healthy Mommy global community as part of the first ever Global Moms Health Survey.

American moms are the most STRESSED in the western world - find out why

We asked moms about a range of topics including their family circumstances, lifestyle, physical and mental health along with their health goals and barriers to healthy living.

The moms in our community are a diverse group that includes stay at home moms (30.3%), full time working moms (26%), part time working moms (25.2%), new moms on maternity leave (8.1%), moms who have their own business (2.7%) and moms who work from home (2.5%).

Thinking globally it was interesting to see that moms in the US (38%) are twice as likely to work full time as moms in Australia (19.2%) with 24.9% of British moms surveyed working full time.

Despite this diversity all these moms have one major thing in common they all love their family and want the best for them which means being the best they can be.

Which is why we wanted to find out just what they all struggle with when it comes to their health.

Highlights of the survey results:

  • Less than 1/3 of moms say that they feel healthy
  • Less than 17% of UK moms love their body
  • Over 30% of moms get 5 hours or less sleep each night on average
  • Almost half of moms experience a significant amount of stress
  • 80% of moms think that healthy eating can be expensive
  • Less than 20% of all moms said they had energy to exercise
  • The main barriers to losing weight are lack of motivation and lack of time
  • Over 50% of moms said their partner didn’t support them fully in living a healthy life
  • 32% of moms said the area they needed most help in was will power
  • Less than 15% of moms said they loved their body
  • Body-love is higher in the US than the UK and Australia
  • 95% of moms feel the media puts pressure on moms to lose weight
  • 97% of moms feel good about seeing a range of moms with different body shapes in the media

The Healthy Mommy’s founder Rhian Allen said, “Moms are the gatekeepers to the family and the key person of influence for the health and longevity of her family.

“When mothers set a positive health example, it can have a significant roll on effect across her family and community.

“Our mission at The Healthy Mommy is to help moms all over the world to lead a healthier life by supporting and helping them make health a priority and set positive examples for generations to come.”
