Loose skin after weight loss
When you lose a large amount of weight following excessive weight gain from unhealthy lifestyle choices or pregnancy, it is almost inevitable that you will be left with some loose skin. Just how much, is often down to your genetics.
But learning to accept your post baby / post weight loss body and all that it has accomplished is the true test of your strength – and in Nic’s case the key to her HAPPINESS.
By following The Healthy Mommy 28 Day Weight Loss Challenges, Nic has undergone a MASSIVE body transformation and while her body may not exactly what she hoped for, she has learned to love and accept every inch of it – and we couldn’t be prouder of her.
Nic says “I’ve had a lot of people ask me lately about loose skin. Asking how I’ve managed not to get it. Well ladies I have it!
Weighing 322 lb and having lost 131 lb it was inevitable that I would”.
“I’ll be honest – half way through my journey it got me down. Why have I bothered? What was all this for? I’ve lost all this weight and now I’m stuck with loose skin!”
“I’ve learnt to embrace my loose skin”
“But ladies I can tell you IT’S WORTH IT!. Totally worth it. I’ve learnt to embrace it.
“I’m fit and healthy”
“All my life my weight has been up and down, but never healthy.
I didn’t look after my body before, and now I may have some loose skin, but I’m also fit and healthy.
- This body has birthed 3 children.
- This body now allows me to do so many things I never could.
- This body gets up early day to workout.
- It is helping me run my first have marathon in October.
- This body is loved and cared for.
We also have to remember that our bodies are all different. We lose weight at different rates, in different areas and in different ways”.
“Don’t compare your body to others”
“We can’t compare one to the other.
So embrace what your bodies have done, and what they are doing.
Treat them well and you will feel AMAZING!
“It’s what’s inside that counts”
Whatever my body looks like on the outside doesn’t matter, it’s what’s inside that counts”.
“Top middle pic is what I like to call the angry monkey. You have to try it at least once and have a laugh. (Without the bra is better) you don’t need to show anyone”.
“How my life has changed and why I love my new life”
“I’ve gone from an unfit, unhealthy, unhappy person who would hide away at home.
I’m now a fit and healthy body confident mom, wife and person. I’ve gone from a size 26-12.
So many excuses over the years
I made every excuse under the sun and to not get fit and healthy.
- I don’t have time
- It’s too expensive to eat healthy and to get fit
- I can’t afford a gym membership.
- I have 3 kids, my husband worked away from home.
- I’ve tried every diet possible nothing works.
- It’s just who I’m meant to be.
The list could go on. But they are all excuses.”
Saying goodbye to the excuses
“When I came across The Healthy Mommy and decided it was time to put ‘me’ first, I said goodbye to those excuses.
- I did have time – I just had to make it. Prioritise it. Set a routine.
- I didn’t need to go to the gym. There’s so much I could do without it. Yes I go to the gym now, but I actually lost 90% of my weight without one. We can do so much at home with the Challenge App and we can be active with our kids.
- It’s not more expensive to eat healthy. I can go to the gym now because I eat healthy and stick to my meal plan. I meal prep. I only buy what we need, not all those chips and lollies and processed food. No more takeaway. I pack food if we’re going out.”
Making the time
“Before I lost my weight I was a stay at home mom.
Now I work 4 days a week and I do more now than I ever have and it actually doesn’t take any time out of my day.
I get up early to go for a run or workout.
So when people say to me now that they don’t have time I say it’s not the time that’s the problem. You just need to make it!”
Nic’s tips for weight loss success
- “Set yourself small achievable goals. It definitely helps keep me motivated by kicking each goal.
- Establish a routine.
I still haven’t reached my weight loss goal yet, but the numbers on the scale are nothing now compared to all the things I have gained and I try each and every day. I’m fitter, stronger and happier. I’m winning!
