Grab some leaner sausages from the butcher to keep this recipe to just 474 calories per serve. Or chop in half and serve to make them even easier to handle.

As with fish fingers, store-bought chicken nuggets can be full of ingredients that are not identifiable as food, plus a lot of unnecessary salt.

Some are better than others but, nutritionally, you can’t beat homemade. Choosing breast meat reduces the fat content, but dark meat or thigh meat has a lot of flavor.

Make your own with some chunks of chicken breast, egg, flour and breadcrumbs, and either shallow pan fry or bake them off with a light coat of oil spray to make them golden.
