Gearing up with Healthy Game Day Appetizers and Snacks
When it comes to game day, easy to prepare, finger food and sharing plates are the way to go. Â And if it is something that can be made in advance and reheated on the day even better.
Here are some of our favorite Healthy Game Day Appetizers made the healthy way.
1. Cheeseburger Meatballs
All the delicious taste of a cheeseburger but with less calories and in a convenient bite size. These cheeseburger meatballs can be assembled in advance – just pop a toothpick in each and serve with a dipping sauce on the side. A sure hit – these ones will disappear quickly.
2. Hot Dogs
You can’t beat simple finger foods when entertaining, and these healthier gourmet hot dogs from the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge are not only hand-held but delicious too. Grab some leaner sausages from the butcher to keep this recipe to just 474 calories per serve. Or chop in half and serve to make them even easier to handle.

3. Easy Chicken Nachos
It wouldn’t be game day without some classic nachos thrown in now would it? Perfect for sharing with friends. This recipe can be made even faster if you have some leftover cooked chicken on hand.
4. Healthy Homemade Chicken Nuggets
As with fish fingers, store-bought chicken nuggets can be full of ingredients that are not identifiable as food, plus a lot of unnecessary salt.
Some are better than others but, nutritionally, you can’t beat homemade. Choosing breast meat reduces the fat content, but dark meat or thigh meat has a lot of flavor.
Make your own with some chunks of chicken breast, egg, flour and breadcrumbs, and either shallow pan fry or bake them off with a light coat of oil spray to make them golden.
5. Salt and Vinegar Zucchini Chips with Sour Cream
Resist the temptation to buy packets of potato chips and instead make some Salt and Vinegar Zucchini chips. Â You can prepare them in advance and then let the oven do all the hard work to crisp them up to a deliciously healthy version of a favorite savory snack.
6. 2 Ingredient Crust Pizza
Pizza doesn’t have to be an unhealthy meal – it’s all about what you put on top of it (and next to it). If you aim for a few quality ingredients and not too much cheese plus a healthy salad on the side, you can’t really go wrong. There are loads of pizza ideas on the recipe hub from the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge.
Our two ingredient pizza dough recipe can be found HEREÂ and the toppings are limited only by your imagination.
7. Quick & Easy Guacamole & Veggie Sticks
Get everyone in the mood with some healthy dip and vegetable dippers. This guacamole has a nice kick to it from the chilli, but you can always leave that out if you prefer.
8. Chili Chicken Drumsticks with Carrot & Raisin Slaw
This Chili Chicken Drumsticks recipe can easily be doubled or even tripled to feed a crowd. Just a few simple ingredients are all you need.
9. Mexican Bean and Coleslaw Tacos
Packed with flavor and loaded with protein from the cheese, yogurt, and beans, which provides a healthy metabolism boost.
10. Mexican Layer Dip
An impressive, indulgent dip that looks great in a glass bowl. So simple to assemble but be quick. This one won’t last!
Bonus – Cold Party Platter / Grazing Table
If you want to avoid using the oven or stove altogether then how about a party platter?.
A VISUAL FEAST for the eyes and they can be waistline and budget friendly too.
Add some fruit, nuts, eggs, bliss balls, cheese, dips and veggies and you are good to go.
And best of all, everything can be made in advance and simply assembled on the day. So that means one less thing to sweat about.  It couldn’t be easier!
Now that you have put in all the work, sit back, relax and enjoy the game!
